COVID-19 Hockey WA Statement and Melville City Hockey Club Notification
Dear Club Members, families and supporters
There has recently been in the news many articles, TV News programs and Government advice in regards to the COVID-19 situation. Included in these notifications there have been many Sporting Codes who have reacted to the government standards and requirements for how their sporting code will deal with the situation we find ourselves in.
As we all know our governing body for the Hockey Code is Hockey Western Australia (HWA). The President of HWA, Mr Garry Fitzpatrick, and the HWA CEO, Mr Stu Gilsenan have distributed a COVID-19 statement.
There are many clear directives and messages in this document. I would, as the President of the Melville City Hockey Club and on behalf of the Melville City Hockey Club Committee and the Melville Turf (Inc) Committee, like to acknowledge that we agree with the decision which has been made and support HWA. HWA have made the decision to suspend all WA Hockey competitions, events and activities until 31 May 2020.
Our main concern and duty of care to our club as a committee, is highlighted in HWA's notification, ie the health and well-being of players, coaches, officials and staff at all levels within our sport is our highest priority.
The MCHC committee, of course, is concerned for our player's, members, coaches, managers, and volunteers. We make special consideration for our older members, members with health problems, family members and of course our junior members and non-member families who support all these groups.
We will work with all of our groups, teams and families as directed by Hockey WA and on our own initiatives as required by a family club and Committee. I ask all members to bear with us while we sort through these initiatives as required. Please note that at this stage it is a postponement only.
This affects us all and we will work together to keep on track and beat this COVID-19 virus which is disrupting our lives and affecting our communities and loved ones here and around the world.
We look forward to your ongoing support so we can keep our club great and protect its members.
All the very best wishes to you and your loved ones and keep safe.
Melville City Hockey Club President
